Keep emotions in check. Your questions, shuffling, and interpretations need to be done from a place of calm and logic, not emotion and panic.

Do not over-read on a subject that you are heavily emotionally invested in. Work out carefully what you really need to know, and what can be left to fate. Don’t keep repeating the same questions to get a better answer!

When you have done a reading, particularly a potentially emotional one, get a bag of dry salt—ordinary fine-grain cooking salt. Put your cards in, and give them a good shake. Then wash your hands with liquid soap, salt, and water. Salt breaks energetic connections and the energetic dirt that builds up on hands from doing readings. I wash my hands after each reading session, and always salt clean my deck after a difficult reading.
